In 2005 when I first was toying with the idea of creating a character for the Sonic series. A friend, I believe it was from neopets, named Echidna_Girl, had sketched out a lovely picture of my small group of three characters while I was planning a fanfiction. This is her very first image and I still am in love with it today, however I wasn't always fond of that poofed out quills she had back then. The cloak in that picture is shown in the image as a homeage to her original look.

An older version of Night that I had posted up in 2006. It was quickly scrapped however, and was the last time I drew her with proper looking quills.

This was a test run for Night's new look in late 2006 when I fiddled around with the shape and color of her fur and quills. It also marked the beginning of her long quilled style. This here was scrapped almost immediately though.

The colored version of the most known look of Nightshade was colored by SpykeofKonoha in 2006 and probably is the one people may recognize when I or someone else drew her, minus the brown belt around her waist. I never did like this outfit but wasn't well at drawing anything else so it stayed.
And now this is her most updated look, I'd say this is a nice success! Yay nostalgia!

Attack Style: Nightshade is a rather forward fighter. She knows her limits, however if pushed, she will go beyond them to the point of exhausting herself if not restrained. Although not as powerful as her wolf friend Raz, she can hit and kick rather hard due to rigorous training, and she mainly uses her speed to attack and run. She treats fights with some sort of grace, moves flowing into one another. In her more aggressive state, she fights hard and dirty and can fall into the role of taunting her victims. If her negative emotions get too high and all else fails, she can succumb to her Destroyer mode, fueled by the Arch energy inside her. A dark cloud of energy would envelope her, as her green and silver markings turn to pale blue and her eyes to silver. She is rather destructive in this mode and has trouble distinguishing friend from foe and thus is a last resort in fighting. If she sets herself to train this mode, she will eventually be able to control it, yet it uses a lot of her energy and she needs time to recover afterwards.
Personality: A very lively and friendly hedgehog when around friends, her competitive streak comes out when meeting others whose talents interest her, especially when it comes to racing or sparing. She can be sarcastic and quick tongued, hiding a temper that can flare at the wrong word. Taught by her father figure to respect those around her, she will hold her tongue and will quickly become worried if it looks like someone is having trouble. One can compare her to a big sister when they become close to her. She does have the tendency to not want to listen to those who attempt to boss her around, preferring to go her own way.
History: In order to know about Nightshade’s history, one must look at her homeland in the Arch Dimension. A large sentient gem known as the Arch Crystal, which looks like a cluster of quartz crystals, grew in the space between parallel dimensions, devoid of life. Due to the energy source it created, a brand new world was created, supported by the pulsing Arch energy. Thus if the Crystal was completely destroyed, so would the dimension of Archemea and its inhabitants. Due to all energy in Archemea having come from the Arch Crystal originally, there is a low level of it in every single being there. Of course there are exceptions where some individuals have a higher level than others due to their proximity to the Crystal. One of the first inhabitants became its guardian and has the highest concentration of Arch energy of them all, but that is a tale for a different time.
Nightshade’s parents had died when she was young due to the Sorceress’ rising reign and she had come under the guardianship of the one who is well known as ‘Father Christmas’, otherwise known by his real name Zen, a green furred three-tailed fox with red markings. He raised her for several years alongside Crystal, a wolf pup that had needed protection after her family was split up due to the Elemental war. This marks the beginning of her close sisterly bond with Crystal, something that is still strong when she is older.
Her training started when she expressed interest to fight in the wars, wanting to help defeat the tyranny of the power-crazed Sorceress, and one of her early missions was the time where she saved a young wolf named Razzarus, who had been separated from his family. In turn, he introduced her to Alezander Lee, his hedgehog friend. Keeping in touch, the four individuals in time got together to become the team they were now. Due to her close proximity with the Crystal, having been considered a 'friend' by the current protector of their dimension's life, Demon, her energy levels, usually at just over average, climbs to a rather high level. This greatly increases her ability, making her faster and stronger than normal. Thus if she found herself away from the Crystal for too long, the excess energy will drain away, leaving her where she used to be. In order to combat that, the three crystals on her pants were designed to hold extra energy just in case she does travel far away, an invention of Alez that proves quite useful to all of them. However after a while, they must be recharged near the Crystal.
